Annabella Lewis has never seen a day of battle in the American Civil War. All she knows is that, though her sister Lucinda is a day's trip away, the border between Virginia and Maryland keeps them apart. After her husband informs her that Lucinda's in danger, Bell makes the perilous trip across the Dixie to save her. Caught between her new family and old, caught between the Union and the Confederacy, the Potomac River was never an easy ford, but now, the stakes have never been higher.

Running ten minutes in length, Crossing the Potomac examines what one must sacrifice for love, and what one must sacrifice for themselves. The main story of Bell's journey is intercut with flashbacks showing how she ended up moving across the river, choosing to make a new family with her husband and leaving her sister behind. Now six months pregnant, it becomes increasingly clear that Bell will not survive the journey back to Maryland, and she again is forced to choose between her new family and old: save her sister, or save herself and her unborn child. While race-relations are not ignored (Lucinda harbors a African-American Confederate deserter, implied to be a runaway slave) it is not the focus of the story.

Much of the film is told mainly through visuals. The dialogue is accurate in tone to the time period, adding to the authenticity of the story. Currently fundraising to finance the filming and production of this short film.
