"You see, Austria and I were fighting, and then Austria drags Serbia into it, and then the three of us were fighting… and none of us noticed that Bosnia had turned on the stove until the fire started… and then we panicked and dragged Germany into it… and that's how the entire apartment building burned down."

A Deadly Game of Chess: Quote
Germany and France Poster Image.jpg

It's the history of Germany and France... in which Germany and France are bitter ex-lovers who live in the same apartment building. Follow them from the Roman Empire to the European Union, and all that craziness that comes in between.

Running a half hour in length, this short film personifies different major historical events in the context of a soap-operaish drama of the dysfunctional residents' lives, though the main storyline focuses on the will they/won't they romance between Germany and France. Each character has a distinct personality that doesn't rely on stereotypes--their characterization, the overall plot, and the majority of the comedy stands even without the allegory (though it is enhanced if one understands the basic historical context).

The film is in the spirit of historical accuracy; a historian/professor at NYU has been consulted. However, the story focuses only on major historical events that the average person would know, such as the French Revolution and World Wars. Each referenced historical event is labeled as such, and any context needed to understand the history-related jokes is either provided or part of the basic cultural lexicon.

The film is planned to be animated, and the dialogue will be recorded in English, German, and French.
